California Central Coast COPS ‘N KIDS offers a variety of programs designed to foster positive relationships between local law enforcement, youth, and their families. Our programs aim to educate, engage, and support our community.
For nearly 30 years, our Annual COPS ‘N KIDS Field Day has brought together over 3,000 kids and their families each year. This event offers a unique opportunity for the community to interact with our local law enforcement agencies. Attendees enjoy free T-shirts, hot dogs, raffles, stickers, cotton candy, face painting, K-9 units, bomb squads, patrol/rescue boats, SWAT rescue vehicles, CHP helicopters, and more.
We partner with Retro Bill to provide engaging and educational assemblies for students from kindergarten through 12th grade. These presentations focus on safety, bullying prevention, self-esteem, and making healthy life choices. Retro Bill's unique style and skillful abilities make these assemblies both fun and informative.
We honor selected law enforcement personnel from 27 local agencies with a distinguished service award, by providing a BBQ lunch each month at different agencies on a rotating basis and at our quarterly dinner meetings. The recipients are chosen for this award by their agency. 12 awards were presented this year.
We are proud to support future law enforcement officers through our scholarship program at Allan Hancock College Basic Law Enforcement Academy. Each year, we award $1,000 to the valedictorian and $750 to a selected graduate from each graduating class. These scholarships recognize superior performance, leadership skills, academic excellence, and a commitment to the profession.
Every Year, millions of men, women and children are trafifcked for some type of labor or commercial sex act, including right here on the Central Coast. CA consistently has the highest human trafficking rates in the U.S. This past year on Sept. 20th, , we partnered with Nipomo Rotary and held a Human Trafficking seminar at Ventana Grill in Pismo Beach.
We provided refreshments at local law enforcement events such as the annual Peace Officer Memorial ceremony held on May 16th, and twice this year at the Allan Hancock College Basic Law Enforcement Academy graduations.
Our organization proudly supports the San Luis Obispo Law Enforcement Assistance Fund (SLOLEAF). This fund provides immediate financial assistance to law enforcement personnel and their families during times of death, serious injury, critical illness, or other catastrophic circumstances. We honor each monthly recipient of our Distinguished Service Award with a donation to SLOLEAF
